Dear Members of the Association for Asian American Studies:
The AAAS Conference is an essential activity to our building an intellectual community, and your personal health and safety is of utmost importance to us. On behalf of the AAAS Executive Board and administrative staff, I want to personally thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to monitor international, national, and local government alerts regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. I apologize that you are just now hearing from us, but we wanted to be able to provide you with the most up-to-date information.
Unfortunately, some of you have heard from the hotel before hearing from us directly. The hotel acted independently and this was not our intent. In light of these recent events, the AAAS Conference will not be held on April 9-11, 2020. We ask for your patience as we continue to provide you updates about possible rescheduling.
We acknowledge the personal and financial strain that this pandemic is causing in our lives.
We have been reaching out to hotel representatives about the best way to resolve our contractual obligations. We felt it important to communicate with you now, and we are hoping to come to a resolution over the next few days and ask for your continued patience. Among the unresolved issues is the question of conference registration fees; this is one of many things we hope to address shortly. We realize this is not the definitive conclusion you need at this time. This is an unforeseeable and unprecedented situation. We hope to be in touch again by the middle of next week.
